  • Origin & History

Turmeric is native to tropical South-East Asia, but it is widely used in Middle-Eastern cuisine too. In India, it is considered sacred and offered to brides to wish them good luck and happiness.

Turmeric pairs very well with other spices, especially black pepper and ginger, and for this reason it can be found in number of blends, like Indian Garam Masala or Moroccan Ras El Hanout. It is ideal for liquid preparations, such as the well-known Golden Milk, a traditional ayurvedic drink made with milk, coconut oil and honey or Lassi, a refreshing Indian yoghurt-based drink. You can also add turmeric powder to soups, sauces or blended juices made with fruits or vegetables, which will acquire a beautiful orange/yellow colour and a delicate yet slightly bitter flavour.
