Origin & History
Cultivated since 300 BC along the Nile River, this dandelion relative was used by the ancient Egyptians and Romans. Once used as a medicinal herb to cleanse the blood, today it's most often used in drinks. During the Napoleonic Wars when coffee was in short supply, the French army used the bitter root to stretch their rations.
